Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a gentle, non-invasive, ancient form of natural healing brought to the west in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui of Japan. An art that is passed from Reiki Master to student through an attunement process, the word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki, meaning universal life-force energy.
This method of activating and balancing the life-force energy (also known as prana, qi or chi) is performed by lightly placing the hands on the clothed body in a series of different locations (head, chest, abdomen, and back) in order to align the chakras and channel energy to organs, glands and other tissues.
It is a form of energy work that works on the physical, etheric, and subtle bodies by restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body, speeding the healing process, and creating deep relaxation.
Reiki can be used as a form of health maintenance and disease prevention, and can be applied as a self-help technique, or used on others.
There are three levels of Reiki training or attunement: Reiki Beginners level, which allows direct hands-on treatment, Reiki Advanced level, which allows remote (at-a-distance) treatment, and Reiki Master level, which allows training and attunement of others. I completed Master level training in 1993.
